My very first commission..... Jose's full name is Jose Rodriguez Rodriguez Justice. Yes, Jose's owners thought the name Rodriguez was so nice, they used it twice! Jenny Justice, Jose's owner, claims Jose as her best friend.
Winston, a slow moving basset hound, loves to play with his friend and roommate, Chug. As Winston has aged, his days have gotten
slower and he loves to max and relax.
Bailey is fortunate enough to live on Sullivans Island, SC. Bailey has owners who were cool enough to pack up the family and move
to the beach permanently. Bailey loves the beach and to play in the sand.
Hunter is a sweet rescue who will be two in January. He is a Shetland Sheepdog / Rat Terrier mix who loves to chase his kitty cat sister. He is a total snuggle bug who loves everyone. His mom, Julia, says that he has even converted her husband, Mike, from a complete anti dog guy into a dog lover.....
Many things could be said about Ursula “Stank Butt” Sullinger. One thing is for certain above all others was that she was loyal. Her love may have been over shadowed by her desire for chicken butter treats but she only gave kisses to those that deserved and earned them. The slight folds in her neck and the luster in her silly ears without any difficulty you brought the spirit of my dear friends baby to canvas. Though her life passed far too quickly she left an ever lasting impression not only in her dog bed but in the lives of so many. My son looks at Ursulas picture everyday with a smile and occasional Ursula hound bark that warms everyone’s heart. Thank you Dana for taking the time to truly see her and for that I’ll forever be moved by your talent and love for the art you create. You helped ease the passing of a very important part of my best friends life and I thank you.
His actual name is “Cody,” not Sir Mansfield Cumming, Coder-Coder, Code the Mode or Modeman. Cody is a rescue who is exceptionally fast and athletic. In fact, Cody has been known to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Cody’s tail is so strong that when he shakes it, his whole body shakes! More than anything, Cody is a loving, intelligent and loyal companion to his wonderful loving owner/father, Hillyer.
Lucy came to me from the northeast - Connecticut. She's a beautiful white Lab and is the pet of Jane and Terry. Jane and Terry refer to Lucy as their "little angel" due to the joy and blessings she brings them each day.
Bitsy (English Mastiff, age 9) Charles (age 10) have been the best of friends since Bitsy was rescued at 18 months old from Florida. Charles named his best friend from “The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” since that was his favorite song when she came to our family. Bitsy and Charles live in Morningside (near Atlanta) and have spent the majority of their friendship right here. True BFF’s: Best Friends Forever.
Pippin is an an Irish Water Spaniel who lives in a neighborhood around the corner from me, Druid Hills. Pippen's owner, Jeff Elam, was such a thoughtful and wonderful husband that he surprised his wife, Tricia, this past Christmas (2016) with this commission of Pippin. From what Jeff says, Pippin is a smart, playful and loyal friend and pet!
Emma is an English Springer Spaniel who lives in Atlanta, GA. Emma has a lot of energy and a lot of love to give. If you use her favorite word "Frisbee" you better be ready to play. Emma also loves destroying footballs, barking at strangers, trying to sit at the dinner table, going on walks with her people, chasing squirrels, "springing" up for hugs, eggs for breakfast and licking kids messy faces. Her favorite song is Happy Birthday and she dreams of one day going to school at Morningside Elementary.
Kaina was a special dog for me to paint. I was commissioned by Rob and Mary Loeb ....you see Rob is the younger brother of my oldest friend, Jenny- so, I've known Rob for a long time....this combined with the fact that he is a recently retired Navy pilot...makes for a special experience for me to paint their sweet dog, Kaina.
"Kaina means brother in Hawaiian. He has been with Rob and Mary for 15 years and 6 moves in the Navy. He could be the coolest guy Rob has ever been around, and that's sayng something for a former Navy Pilot. He has always looked after Mary whenever Rob has been deployed and they couldn't think of a better pup to call Kaina.
Bear is a 4 year old rescue mutt (we believe Lab / Rottweiler mix) that lives with his parents, Ian and Kelly in Reynoldstown. Bear is a high-energy friendly pup who loves to sing (read: howl) along to songs on the radio, play tug-of-war with his all of toys, and monitor the neighborhood from his favorite seat on the sofa. Although he’s a high-energy guy, he also likes to cuddle up with his parents in bed and watch a couple episodes of Game of Thrones to unwind after a long day of eating sticks and barking at the neighbors.
Blue lives in Morningside, a wonderful community in Atlanta. Blue is a Great Dane and has great taste in football teams. Blue loves the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Scout is the first cat I've painted. Look at those beautiful eyes and stripes! Scout comes from all the way up north in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This painting was a surprise present from her father, Mike, to her mother, Ann, for the holidays. Scout was a loving part of their family for over 12+ years.
Molly is a toy dog and she loves her toys, especially Wabbit. She loves to play and retrieve and could do it all day long. She gives her owners, Susan and Jack, lots of laughs and puppy love. A friend of Jack and Susan once said to them.... “I wouldn’t mind having two 'old people' taking care of me!” And at three years old, not only is Molly a loving and well trained dog, but she also has Jack and Susan well trained, too!
Libby is about 7 years old. Don't know her exact age because she was adopted 4 years ago from the Big Canoe Animal Rescue in North Georgia. She is a very sweet, smart, happy girl who brings so much joy to her family. As far as Libby’s family can tell she's a "mountain mix" with a lot of hound dog thrown in. She's so loyal and loving and people often comment that she has a great smile. Libby was a gift from Ginny (and her son, Colin) to her husband Tim. Tim’s reaction to Libby…. "Best Father’s Day gift E-V-E-R. Dana didn’t just paint Libby's portrait, she captured her wise and playful nature. This is a treasure for our family."
Henry was a gift from one of my close friends, Angie, to her "two gracious men" - Les and Michael. Henry lives in Ansley Park, a nice intown community in Atlanta. He brings joy and fun to the their home each and everyday.
Stella's owner, Kevin, is a co-worker and friend of my husband's. She is a Blue Heeler. She's named after the grateful dead song Stella Blue. She's a timid old soul and she had a litter of about 8 puppies before Kevin rescued her. Another interesting fact is that she ran away the day Kevin got her.
Manhattan is a 100% city dog and enjoys long walks in the [ark and lunch at a local cafe. She is spunky and the hit of the neighborhood with her barking at all dogs triple her size to show her might.
She never leaves home with out her hair perfectly set with a barette to keep it out of her eyes. She is fun-loving and always makes people smile with her sweet face. Manhattan loves spending time at home with her parents or playing with her cousin, a Yorkie-Poo named Murphy.
Cami lives in Morningside, a neighborhood in Atlanta. She's an 11-year old rescue mutt who was a birthday present for our then-8 year old daughter, who is now in college. Cami loves going to the mountains, where she runs through the woods and baths in the streams until, by early evening, she's so tired she curls up tightly on her bed, occasionally snoring and twitching. Another thing about Cami - she's never gotten over squirrels. They remain as exciting as the first time she saw one. In her younger years, she would chase them, and the squirrels would look back, seemingly surprised at her speed. Cami looks like a little German Shepherd, but she's part Saluki - a fast, sight-hound breed. In the painting, Cami looks alert because she was watching a squirrel. Cami has been a great companion and an important part of our family.
Sadie and Tito
Sadie and Tito are roommates and best friends. This painting was a birthday gift for Sadie’s and Tito’s Mom. Sadie is the elder stateswoman and a very special girl in her Mom’s life. Tito is a playful puppy who is beloved by his brother and sister (Aiden and Ashley). They are a combined 220 pounds, and adore each other.
Biscuit is the Lee family's family dog. When they saw the painting of Biscuit they knew exactly where that picture is from. Dana captured Biscuit in a moment of fun by a river in Northern California. Biscuit loved playing the river and this is how the Lee's think of Biscut.
